Robert Kirkman on ‘Walking Dead’ season two: ‘You haven’t seen anything yet’

Reblogged from iamrickgrimesmissinghand

iamrickgrimesmissinghand:

The-Walking-Dead-CastWith The Walking Dead coming out on DVD next week, the show’s writer-producer and original comic book’s creator Robert Kirkman answers some of our burning questions about the second season, the upcoming video game and more.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What makes the DVD a must buy for fans?
ROBERT KIRKMAN: There’s a lot of cool behind-the-scenes footage, we had a great guy on set every minute of every day to catch a lot of candid footage and it’s put into bunch of documentaries. Plus, of course, we have the six episodes.

I love that it’s coming out now instead of like some TV shows that put out the DVD right before the next season.
It always bugs me when I want to re-watch the last season of Lost but I can’t watch 22 episodes in the four days just before the new season starts. I understand that they do it for marketing reasons, but I wish they would give us more time.

Exactly. How are things going on season 2?
Great. We’re mapping out everything. We got a lot of cool ideas. Everyone here is mindful of how well received the first season was. We’re breaking our backs, story wise, to make sure the next season is twice is good, or three times as good, with a lot of twists and turns and pushing the envelop of what you can do on TV.

The first season alternated mainly between the camp site and Atlanta. What will the setting be for season 2?
I don’t know if I can go into that, but I know [showrunner Frank Darabont] has said we’re going to see Hershel’s farm. We’re looking to take some picturesque rural landscapes and playing with that and coming up with some cool zombie visuals. We’ll see some of the locations of the first season, but we’re going to mainly focus on breaking new ground. Oh, and we’re going to feature a lava planet.

Of course, the survivors have to stop at Mustafar. How much Rick vs. Shane drama is going to play into season 2?
That’s definitely the core dynamic that’s going on, but there’s a lot of other interesting stuff in the mix. We’re going to seeing a lot of Andrea and a lot more of Laurie.

How much is Frank Darabont writing/directing?
He’s focusing on writing. He’s in writers room every day. I’m writing some episodes and he’s writing some episodes. We’re trying to figure out what we’re doing with the directing right now. The logistics and also being big part of the writers room will limit his time.

Is the great Bear McCreary staying on as composer?
Yes.

And we still have to wait until October?
Yes, that’s pretty public at this point. That’s the target.

The Walking Dead will be at Comic-Con, I assume?
Oh yeah, indeed. We’re going to have a 12-foot-tall zombie costume

I’ve played through Left 4 Dead, so what will the upcoming Walking Dead video game bring new to the genre?
Left 4 Dead
is much more focused on action. On of the key aspects of Walking Dead is it focuses on characters and the emotion, and that theme is very much alive in the game, and luckily with modern games you can actually do that.

Anything else you can tease to from about season 2?
We’ve been talking to [zombie effects master] Greg Nicotero a lot about some cool zombie stuff he has planned. As much as this show pushed the envelope of gore on TV, the joy of seeing the best zombies ever done on a TV show every week, all I can say you haven’t seen anything yet.

EW Talks Season 2 With Kirkman; LA Times Predicts Emmy for Lincoln!!

Reblogged from mitzidemarco-deactivated2011103

mitzidemarco:

This week Entertainment Weekly talks to Robert Kirkman about Season 2, while the Los Angeles Times thinks Andrew Lincoln could get an Emmy nomination come July.

Entertainment Weekly has Season 2 (and Season 3!) spoilers from Robert Kirkman on Tyrese, Michonne, the Governor and more.

The Los Angeles Times predicts an Emmy nomination for Andrew Lincoln thanks in part to Bryan Cranston’s (AMC’s Breaking Bad) absence from the race this year.

Entertainment Weekly quotes Andrew Lincoln on Season 2: “The CDC was their big hope and that’s gone so the future is bleak but humans also have a strong survival instinct.”

• Gale Anne Hurd appears on Last Call with Carson Daly and defines her job as a producer: “The godmother, the cheerleader, sometimes the person who has to be the dominatrix.” (No Link)

Film Music Magazine interviews The Walking Dead composer Bear McCreary, who explains on AMC’s show he “used a lot more electronic textures, to blend in with the smaller string orchestra we recorded each week.”

Director Edgar Wright tells Collider.com that Frank Darabont has asked him to direct a Season 2 episode, though he might not do it.

TV.com points to The Walking Dead in its argument that kid monsters are scarier than adult monsters: “The scariest zombie from The Walking Dead? That first little girl, hands down.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season Blu-Ray/DVD set debuted at No. 2 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert national home video sales chart for the week ended March 13 and debuted at No. 3 on the dedicated Blu-ray Disc chart. It was No. 5 on Rentrak’s DVD sales chart for the week, UPI reports.

• There was more Blu-Ray/DVD-related press, from NorthJersey.com (“It’s gory enough to satisfy hard-core horror junkies and smart enough to qualify as one of the best shows on TV”) and The Ottawa Citizen. Mania notes, “the mere fact that any network even put on a show about a zombie apocalypse shows that they believed in it strongly.” The Vancouver Sun, the Bellingham Herald and HollywoodChicago.com also like the show.

BroadwayWorld.com reports that you can catch Jon Bernthal on stage in Los Angeles starting later this month in a production of Small Engine Repair.

Zap2it’s review of the trailer for the film Super-8 mentions Noah Emmerich, “who had a memorable turn as a disillusioned NIH scientist at the end of The Walking Dead’s first season. Emmerich has also been cast in a pilot for NBC’s S.I.L.A., Deadline Hollywood reports.

Examiner.com features the The Walking Dead’s Season 1 behind-the-scenes photos, saying they remind “viewers how much work goes into a production as complicated as The Walking Dead.” ComicBookMovie.com and The Daily BLAM! have them too.

A Los Angeles Times article mentions The Walking Dead in its discussion on TV channels using new ways to help publicize their shows, explaining how the online motion comic “spread the apocalyptic concept to genre fans and those unfamiliar with the show’s origins as a cult-favorite comic book.”

• Norwegian zombie fans, rejoice. Broadband TV News reports that the Fox Crime channel is launching in Norway and has secured the rights to The Walking Dead

ramblingamblin:

I think I totally identify with this show because, well, let’s face it. Metaphorically life is very much like trying to survive amongst an undead horde in an apocalyptic world. Always running, always fighting, always trying to keep one step ahead. People hounding your ass. Meanwhile you’re trying to get a handle on it all. Yup. That’s life. Oh, fuck. I just discovered why I enjoy the whole damn zombie genre in the first place. Anyhow, killer show synced to the ambiance of a song that perfectly suits the “welcome to Oz” vibe I gather from Rick Grimes whenever I watch. I did not make this video. It’s just cool. Enjoy.

Lindsay Lohan wants to be on The Walking Dead

“Lindsay is a fan of the show and like the idea of appearing in what would be a fun cameo as a zombie,” a source explained. - report by Stuff.co.nz

So aside from Charlie Sheen, they’re possibly bringing in Lindsay Lohan? Coke addicts being shot on screen! This suddenly became a reality show. I dunno about you guys but I’m a little pessimistic about this as huge celebrities might compromise the flow. It will bring in huge ratings for the show but it might loose its focus. What do you think?
